Is power steering pump important to automotive steering system? Why!

The power steering pump is driven by the engine to transfer the low pressure oil to the high pressure oil in the tank to the steering control valve.  

The Role Of Power Steering Pump

1. Power steering pump is the power source of hydraulic power steering system. It converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy through the engine as the transmission medium.  
2. Control the internal pressure of power steering pipeline through pressure safety valve to ensure the safety of steering system;  
3. Control the flow of the steering system through the flow control valve to ensure the steering feel of the driver when the vehicle is running at high speed.

Precautions for use and maintenance

1. The correct choice of hydraulic oil grade, otherwise it will affect the efficiency and life of the pump.
2. The hydraulic oil must be cleaned, inspected regularly, and the oil filter net on the oil suction road of the oil pump should be replaced regularly. When refueling, the driver must have a filter device to ensure the cleanliness of the oil. And often check, clean or replace the filter device to keep the oil road unblocked.
3. If the steering pump is not used for a long time, when restarting, it shall not immediately work at full load, and there shall be at least ten minutes of no-load operation time.
4. Use should often check whether the steering pump leakage, normal operation, there is no impact or abnormal noise, in order to find and troubleshoot in time.



Classification Of Power Steering Pumps

1. From the distribution of models, it can be divided into: commercial vehicle steering pump and passenger vehicle steering pump.  
2, from the structural form, can be divided into: vane steering pump, gear steering pump, plunger steering pump;  The double-acting vane steering pump is widely used in various models because of its advantages of small size, low noise and high volumetric efficiency.  
3, from the driving form, can be divided into: gear driven steering pump, pulley driven steering pump, cross slip key (spline) type steering pump;  Among them, the belt wheel driven steering pump is mainly used to drive the passenger car with small torque, and the gear drive type and cross slide key type are more common in commercial vehicles.  

Power Steering Pump Composition

At present, the automotive steering pump is mostly double-acting vane steering pump, which is mainly composed of ordinary double-acting vane pump, flow control valve and pressure safety valve.  Double-acting vane pump to provide high pressure oil, flow control valve to ensure the steering pump output for the vehicle needs of the flow, pressure relief valve control steering pump maximum output pressure, for the engine power is small gasoline engine, should also be equipped with pressure switch.

Working Principle Of Power Steering Pump

As shown in the figure below, after driving wheel to drive the rotor rotation, the blade under the action of centrifugal force, open, and together with the stator, rotor, oil distribution plate form the working cavity, when the rotor and blade from stator inner surface of small circular arc area to the big circular arc area turns, increasing the volume between the two blades, pressure decreases, and the mouth of oil absorption of oil absorption of oil distribution disk;  When the large arc area is transferred to the small arc area, the volume between the two blades is reduced and the pressure is increased. The oil is discharged through the oil discharge port of the pressure plate, and the high pressure oil discharged enters the steering device through the steering pipe to provide steering power.
